Growing up listening to Paramore, it was hard to believe the news that Jeremy Davis (bassist) had left. After their Facebook announcement I wondered what Paramore would be like without him. The comment section was very two-sided. Some people were just looking back at all the memories Paramore had had and were happy to see what Jeremy was going to do in the future. The others were upset. Especially the people that were going to go on their annual cruise “Parahoy.” “What is Paramore going to be like without Jeremy?” they ask.
Paramore continues on their announcement saying, “To be honest, this has been really painful. After taking time to consider how to move forward, we ultimately found that we really do believe Paramore can and should continue on. And so we will.”
After three months, a conflict has popped up where Paramore and Jeremy are in an argument. They are deciding whether Jeremy was an employee of the band or was a partner in their underlying business. According to the band’s contract with Atlantic Records, frontwoman Hayley Williams is the only one signed to the label and the other band members are paid as employees. This has drawn controversy between them. Either Jeremy is a full member and would still get paid for all of the future songs, albums, music videos, etc. that Paramore has set out for them, or he was just an employee and will get nothing.
Jeremy filed a counterclaim stating that Paramore began as a partnership that he and Hayley Williams founded. He continues to state that he was responsible for various duties in the band outside performing, including hiring musicians and crew as well as making decisions for the band.
However this turns out, we just all hope that this won’t start a conflict like what happened with the Farro Brothers back in 2010.
My prediction is that Paramore will continue to write and hopefully put out a new album in late 2016 or early 2017. I also think they will go on a small tour, maybe around the United States. Though perhaps they will just pull a “One Direction” and only release an album and not tour. I know what some of you are thinking, “Why not just have them on Warped Tour this year and bring back 2006 Paramore.” That’s what I’m wishing for.
What do you think Paramore will be like without Jeremy?
