After Underoath disbanded in 2012, fans wouldn’t have ever thought a reunion was even possible. That is, until murmurs started leaking out on social media on July 31, 2015 about a possible reunion concert. Since then, fans had been eagerly waiting to hear if such rumors were true, and to most listeners’ delight, they were.
Just months ago, Underoath released their farewell video, “Tired Violence,” saying they would never play together again. However, that did not last for long.
Underoath officially announced their reunion Rebirth Tour on August 17 as well as an appearance at Self Help Festival in 2016. Underoath has given some information about what to expect from them on this tour. They have said that on Rebirth Tour they will play songs from Define The Great Line, They’re Only Chasing Safety, and Lost In The Sound Of Separation. (Dates listed below.)
It is surprising that there has not been more speculation that Underoath’s disbanding and reconvening was nothing more than a publicity stunt. However, there still is some conjecture; because their tour announcement came so shortly after their breakup video, some fans and listeners have been wondering if this was simply an attempt to raise ticket sales.
On the contrary, Underoath seems very genuine that their disbandment and reestablishment are in no way connected, based on their interview on BadChristian Podcast. Both Tim and Spencer stated that at the time they broke up after filming most of their video and never would have expected Underoath to play together again.
On the other hand, though, the band had already known about a reunion show prior to the release of “Tired Violence.” In fact, Tim admitted in the interview with BadChristian Podcast that “We [Underoath] were thinking about doing something, you know, back in last year and we were like, man, this doesn’t feel right, we were just finishing up the documentary, we can’t do that. And everyone was like, well, honestly, if we were ever to do anything, the earliest we could ever fathom it would be 2016.”
Nonetheless, Underoath is excited and ready to be back on the road bringing music and excitement to everyone willing to come and rock out with them. Although there may be some speculation over Underoath’s actions, most fans are just happy that the band is playing shows together again.
