Icon for Hire
The music scene seems to be getting flooded with more and more unoriginal music from the same generic bands and it’s getting difficult to find a decent one-of-a-kind act. However, there is one band that can forever stop your search: Icon For Hire. At last there is a band who has mastered the fine art of creating music people love while still making it their own individual creation. Icon For Hire combines everything anyone could love about music by mixing influences from punk, hardcore, pop, and rock to create something extraordinary. With her bright pink hair and awe-inspiring fashion sense, Ariel kills the stage with her mind-blowing vocals filled with unmatchable passion. Guitarist Shawn Jump also wins the crowd over with his superior guitar shredding and self-designed mohawk that is second to none. Completing this incomparable trio is Adam Kronshagen with his matchless drumming and driving beats. When these three incredible musicians are put together on stage, they create something so breathtaking and unforgettable, you’ll have to see it for yourself. Out of all the bands on Warped Tour this year, Icon For Hire is definitely not one you want to miss! –Cassie
Bebe Rexha is a familiar voice with a not-so-familiar name. Former frontwoman of Pete Wentz’s Black Cards, the New York singer has been featured on songs like Cash Cash’s “Take Me Home” and David Guetta and Nicki Minaj’s “Hey Mama.” Having written songs for the likes of Eminem, Selena Gomez, and Madonna, Rexha was signed to Warner Bros. Records and released her first solo EP I Don’t Wanna Grow Up this past May.
This Minnesota native is sure to make you smile with his unique style dubbed “Hippy-Hop.” Mod Sun is all about creating a positive atmosphere by taking you on hip-hop-influenced musical trips to the 1970s. Instead of rapping about the stereotypical subjects of the genre that are based on misogyny, violence, and money, he takes a different approach. In Mod Sun’s world, women deserve the finest and someone will only be shot down if it’s with a peace sign. As far as money goes, he thinks it’s “cool and everything, but [he’d] rather make a memory.” Oh, and did I mention that his set is backed by a live band? Mod Sun is truly a rarity in the hip-hop world. So do yourself a favor this summer and make a memory with him, he will not disappoint. –Jordan
Everyone loves a little pop punk in his or her life. That being said, Moose Blood is a must see on this year’s Warped Tour. Hailing all the way from Canterbury, England, Moose Blood is a four-piece British band that joined forces back in 2012 through their passion for music. Signed with No Sleep Records, Moose Blood released their debut full-length album, I’ll Keep You In Mind From Time To Time in the fall of 2014 and made their mark in the alternative rock scene. Moose blood takes a twist on their sound through their love of mid 90’s emo, and brings you an alternative pop punk sound like no other. They’re honest lyrics about life, relationships, friends, and family, draw listeners in wanting more. If you’re looking for some awesome summer tunes, I highly recommend you check out Moose Blood at this year’s Warped Tour. I promise you won’t regret it! –Sara
Koo Koo Kangaroo
The last time I saw Koo Koo Kangaroo perform was at the International Cat Video Festival. If that doesn’t say anything about the hip hop duo, what does? They are something else, entirely.
It’s rare to see a band with a female lead make it big in the alt rock scene, but Pvris are doing just that. Fronted by killer vocalist Lynn Gunn, the band has been quickly gaining momentum since the release of their debut album, White Noise, in the fall of 2014. With stand-out tracks like “St. Patrick,” “Holy,” and “Mirrors,” the album showcases Gunn’s impressive vocal range, as well as exhibiting definite talent and uniqueness both structurally and lyrically. Gunn’s vocals are equally as powerful and controlled live, and her efforts to interact with the crowd and get them involved in the show, though standard, are nonetheless effective. This year is Pvris’ debut at Warped Tour, and theirs is a set you won’t want to miss. –Lizzie
